Mawazo

Mawazo literally means “ideas” and is taken from Swahili. This African word signifies the importance of indigenous ideas that have the potential to transform the global south both socially and economically. In recent years, Kerala’s startup landscape has evolved tremendously, creating a need for a platform where young innovators can creatively engage with this ecosystem. DYFI, as a socially committed organization with dedicated activists across Kerala, plays a vital role in this process. Mawazo is more than a festival; it is a movement designed to inspire innovation for social causes and foster the entrepreneurial spirit among Kerala’s youth.

Break the chain

"Break the chain" with DYFI (Democratic Youth Federation of India) refers to two different events: a 2020 campaign to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by distributing hand sanitizers, and a 2024 human chain protest against the central government's alleged neglect of Kerala. In 2020, DYFI activists created and distributed hand sanitizers as part of the government's "Break the Chain" initiative, and in 2024, they organized a large human chain across Kerala to protest policies they believed were harmful to the state.
